The Basics of Spring Cleaning Your Closets

Although we all can tell when we need to clean and organize our homes, most of us still dread doing so. However, once you focus on the task at hand it is not as hard or as difficult as you may think. You can start with just one project. Read on to find out the basics of spring cleaning your closets.

Take it off, take it all off

The easiest way to clean and organize your closets is to take everything out and put it in a pile. Once you have removed every single item, you are obligated to finish the task and get rid of that pile of junk you just created.

Sort it out

Sort the items into three piles: one of things you want to keep, one of things to get rid of and one of things that you are not sure about. Then go over that third pile, and as you look at each item, try and remember the last time you used it. Do you need it frequently? Does it fit? Does it have any sentimental value? If you can answer "no" to any of these questions, it is time to get rid of it.

Trash to treasure

Do not just take the "get rid of" pile and throw it all in the trash. Even though it may not fit you, or you may think it looks ugly or outdated, there are always people in need of clothes, shoes and everyday items. Donate your items to a local church, homeless shelter or thrift store.

Cleaning out your closet should be done at least twice a year, and it can be a relatively simple project. Donate what you don't need, since one man's trash may be another man's treasure.
